Softball Recap: Anahuac Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Anahuac had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-2 win over the Buna Cougars. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Panthers also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Brecken Wilpitz made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off nine hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Kaitlynn McDaniel was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Estefani Palacios, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Anahuac kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive games.

Anahuac pushed their record up to 12-2-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Buna, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Anahuac Panthers duke it out with Kountze Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Buna, they will venture away from home to square off against Kirbyville at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Kirbyville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
