Softball Recap: Battlefield Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Battlefield faced off against Gainesville on Friday. The Bobcats fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 3-2. The match marked the Bobcats' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Olivia Morse was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.

At the plate, Battlefield saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chloe Baird, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Battlefield's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 8-4. As for Gainesville, they moved to 3-5 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Coming up, Battlefield will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Osbourn Park at 6:00 p.m. The Bobcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Yellowjackets have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season. As for Gainesville, they are taking a road trip to challenge Riverside at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
