League recap: Hoover extends winning streak with victory over Minor

Hoover extended the longest winning streak in 6A Region 5 this week by beating Minor, 14-0. This was the team's ninth consecutive win.

Northridge took down Jackson-Olin 55-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.

6-foot-1 quarterback Tyler Gates of Tuscaloosa County is the league leader in passing yards this season with 499. He has also thrown three touchdowns. On the ground, the Tigers' Mondarrius Griggs has rushed for 721 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Griggs. The Minor star has nine catches for 372 yards.

The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between the Wildcats and Hoover. Tuscaloosa County enters the contest ranked 18th in the state, while Josh Niblett's team ranks first.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Lee Gibson's team takes on the Buccaneers. The Wildcats have allowed 57 points this season, while Hoover has given up 66. Tuscaloosa County allowed 14 points last week as it defeated Hillcrest.

The Jaguars led 6A Region 5 in scoring this week after putting up 55 points on the Mustangs.
