Volleyball Recap: Spearfish Falls Short Against Ranked Watertown

Spearfish faced Watertown in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Spartans fell 2-0 to the Arrows. The Spartans' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Their offense was headlined by Adelyn Bouman and Julia Billington, who picked up five kills apiece. They got some help from Kali Reiners and her 16 assists. Taylor Vitto controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Watertown's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Andi Olson led the charge by getting 11 digs. Olson is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last 11 games she's played.

Spearfish's loss dropped their record down to 17-11. As for Watertown, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 18-8.

Spearfish wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 2-1 victory against Brookings on the 25th. As for Watertown, they will head out on the road to square off against Aberdeen Central at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
