The Kearny Komets will take on the Rock Academy Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
On Friday, Kearny came up short against Canyon Hills and fell 22-14. The Komets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Even if they lost, Kearny's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Michael Berry and Oscar Nunez, who each picked up 0.5 sacks apiece.
Meanwhile, the third road contest was the charm for Rock Academy, as they earned their first away win of the season. They claimed a resounding 42-7 victory over Orange Glen. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 28 points or more this season.
Rock Academy's win came from a few key players Kearny will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Iman Oredi, who picked up 35 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also punched in one TD on the ground. He didn't just play on offense: he also picked up 1.5 sacks and made five total tackles (2.0 for loss). Alec Endicott was another key player, throwing for 115 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Rock Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Endicott and Quentin Uhland. Endicott's passing game has become a key predictor of Rock Academy's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 0-3 otherwise. The Warriors received some extra help from Uhland, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Rock Academy, racking up 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Zayden Campbell, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Rock Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.0 points over those games. As for Kearny, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Everything came up roses for Kearny against Rock Academy in their previous meeting back in September of 2024, as the team secured a 49-9 victory. Will the Komets repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
