Baseball Recap: Clintondale Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Clintondale waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Eastpointe Shamrocks 18-3. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by ten runs or more this season.

Andrew Koltvedt made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, Brett Polakowski and Blake Grimes did most of the damage at the plate: Polakowski went 1-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Grimes went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Polakowski is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Anthony Lalone, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Clintondale was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .471 or higher in three consecutive games.

Clintondale's win bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Eastpointe, they are on a 17-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-14.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clintondale will host University Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.11 runs per game on average), something the Dragons will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Eastpointe, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Chandler Park Academy at 4:30 p.m. on the 26th.
