Preview: Rocky Ford Meloneers vs. Calhan Bulldogs
The Rocky Ford Meloneers will head out on the road to take on the Calhan Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Colorado (Rocky Ford is ranked 209th, while Calhan is ranked 230th).
Rocky Ford can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 46-30 victory over Swallows Charter Academy. Rocky Ford pushed the score to 38-15 by the end of the third, a deficit Swallows Charter Academy cut but never quite recovered from.
Meanwhile, Calhan entered their tilt with Miami-Yoder with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Calhan took down Miami-Yoder 38-23 on Tuesday.
Kylee Barnes was the offensive standout of the match as she scored ten points along with five rebounds and four steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kailey Peterson, who scored ten points along with four steals.
The win got Rocky Ford back to even at 8-8. As for Calhan, they pushed their record up to 5-9 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Everything came up roses for Rocky Ford against Calhan when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 55-8 victory. With Rocky Ford ahead 30-2 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
