The Connell Eagles will head out to take on the Royal Knights at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Connell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Connell lost 15-2 to Cashmere on Saturday. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost six in a row.
Connell saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tucker Thomasson, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Royal had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Bears as they made off with a 13-3 victory. Considering the Knights have won seven contests by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Karson Thompson made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Royal got a massive performance out of Bryan Larsen, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The Knights are 7-1 when Larsen posts two or more runs, but 2-6-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ernie Weeks, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Royal kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.
Royal's record now sits at 9-7-1. As for Connell, their loss dropped their record down to 13-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Connell has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Royal struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Connell was able to grind out a solid win over Royal in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, winning 11-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
