Softball Recap: Tough Loss for Mitchell

Mitchell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 17th straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against the Florence Huskies, falling 23-6.

Mitchell saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Angel Boston, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances while posting 1 double, 1 RBI, and 1 run.

Even though they lost, Mitchell took advantage of their speed and finished the game with three stolen bases. That's the best they've done in that category since at least September 11, 2025.

On Florence's side, Lilly Roe and Kendra Steffenson did most of the damage: Roe went 2-for-4 while logging 4 runs, 3 RBIs, and 1 double, while Steffenson pitched 4 innings while giving up 6 earned runs off 7 hits. Roe has also been pretty much perfect as far as strikeouts are concerned: she hasn't struck out any for 12 straight games dating back to last season. Brooklyn DeSalvo was another key player, going 2-for-3 while logging 4 RBIs, 1 double, and 1 stolen base.

Mitchell has now lost 15 of their last 16 games at home. That leaves them at an 0-7 record this season. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 4-0 Sand Creek (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 77.8% over those games). As for Florence, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mitchell will challenge Coronado at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Florence, they will take on Canon City at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
