Basketball Recap: Heritage Hills Skates Past Mt. Vernon with Ease

Heritage Hills won the last time they faced Mt. Vernon and things went their way on Saturday too. The Heritage Hills Patriots claimed a resounding 57-27 win over the Mt. Vernon Wildcats. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while the Wildcats are ranked 373rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Heritage Hills was led to victory by Mayci Litherland and Mia Becher. Litherland posted 15 points and four steals, while Becher went 7 for 12 en route to 15 points and three steals. That's the most steals Litherland has posted since back in January of 2024. Hadley Leibering was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

Despite the loss, Mt. Vernon had strong showings from Taylor Ellison, who put up ten points, and Addison Chilton, who earned six points and three steals.

Heritage Hills pushed their record up to 12-10 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Mt. Vernon, they are on a 22-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-21.

Heritage Hills will square off against Evansville Bosse at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Heritage Hills has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Mt. Vernon does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
