Basketball Game Preview: Central Grizzlies vs. Clovis West Golden Eagles

Central hasn't had much luck against Clovis West recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Central Grizzlies will head out to challenge the Clovis West Golden Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Central is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They skirted past San Joaquin Memorial 66-63. The victory continues a trend for the Grizzlies in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won three in a row.

It was another big night for Savana Chase, who went 7-for-13 on her way to 17 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. That's the most blocks she has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Chyna Roland, who scored 16 points and five assists.

Meanwhile, Clovis West put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 69-24 win over Arroyo Grande. Given the Golden Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Eagles are ranked 89th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Clovis West's victory was their 28th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 30-0. As for Central, their record now sits at 22-6.

Central suffered a grim 78-53 defeat to Clovis West when the teams last played back in January. Can Central avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
