Baseball Recap: Lakeshore Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Lakeshore dropped their record down to 18-5 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins at home. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Joseph Bears. The Lancers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bears earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

As for St. Joseph, the victory snapped their losing streak at seven games and leaves them with a 8-11-1 record. The game was the first time they have beaten Lakeshore on their field since May 11, 2024.

For St. Joseph's part, Henry Church spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit. Church also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Bears are undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-11-1 otherwise.

At the plate, St. Joseph let Blayke Sicurello and Bryce Vujtech run wild. Sicurello went 1-for-3 with five stolen bases and two runs, while Vujtech went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. St. Joseph is 4-1 when Vujtech posts two or more runs, but 4-10-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Kragt, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lakeshore will take on Hudsonville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for St. Joseph, they will host Portage Central at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
