Softball Recap: Phoenix Comes Up Short

Phoenix was the 3-2 winner over Cottage Grove when they last played one another back in March, but their luck changed this time around. The Pirates fell 6-2 to the Lions on Friday. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Rylei Rivero spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Carsyn Sousa was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Keelie Woodside was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases.

Phoenix's loss dropped their record down to 15-10. As for Cottage Grove, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-9.

As of now, neither Phoenix nor the Lions have any future games scheduled.
