Preview: Myers Park Mustangs vs. Garner Trojans
The Myers Park Mustangs will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against the Garner Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on December 27th. Myers Park knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven games -- so hopefully Garner likes a good challenge.
Last Wednesday, Myers Park earned a 55-45 victory over Norcross. Given Myers Park's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked fourth in North Carolina, while Norcross is ranked 74th in Georgia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Myers Park relied on the efforts of Sir Mohammed, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and five assists, and Sadiq White Jr., who scored 18 points along with five assists and five rebounds. The game was White Jr.'s eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Hines, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, Garner had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They managed a 64-58 win over Willow Spring. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Myers Park's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Garner, they pushed their record up to 4-2 with that victory, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.
