Basketball Game Preview: Hoggard Vikings vs. Laney Buccaneers

The Hoggard Vikings will face off against the Laney Buccaneers at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Hoggard is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Topsail: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Hoggard blew Topsail out of the water with a 78-45 final score. The Vikings have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Laney had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They walked away with a 52-42 win over the Scorpions. Given the Buccaneers' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 79th, while the Scorpions are ranked 325th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hoggard's victory bumped their record up to 20-4. As for Laney, their win bumped their record up to 16-7.

Hoggard beat Laney 75-65 in their previous meeting back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hoggard since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
