Softball Recap: Hemphill Comes Up Short

Hemphill extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 11-16-1 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the West Hardin Oilers. The Hornets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Oilers earlier this season, when they won 12-3.

As for West Hardin, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-12. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games.

For West Hardin's part, Cheyenne Steele spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. Steele has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Adleigh Albritton, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Lexie Ramirez, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Hemphill does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for West Hardin, they will square off against Mumford at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Oilers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
