Pleasant Plains put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Goreville Blackcats a 4-0 shutout. That's more bragging rights for the Cardinals, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Cooper Schallenberg was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Schallenberg was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season.

In other pitching news, Taylor Brewer looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024.

Schallenberg wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Drew Green, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Charlie Severino also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Pleasant Plains' victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Goreville, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.

Looking ahead, Pleasant Plains will face off against DuQuoin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Goreville, they will square off against Murphysboro at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Goreville's pitchers better be ready for this one: Murphysboro has averaged an impressive 6.1 runs per game this season.
