Softball Recap: Superior Takes a Loss

Cloquet hit Superior with a four-run second inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans fell 8-5 to the Lumberjacks. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lumberjacks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Tenley Lawton put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, Halle Visger was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

This is the second loss in a row for Superior and nudges their season record down to 4-7. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Cloquet, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Superior will take on Marshall at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cloquet, they will venture away from home to take on Blaine at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
