The Riverside Vikings will face off against the West Scranton Invaders at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Riverside is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Riverside took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Old Forge, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Vikings skirted past the Blue Devils 9-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Vikings have posted since April 14th.
Mackenzie Keller was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Cassidy Merrifield, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Riverside kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, West Scranton got the win against Scranton on Monday by a conclusive 14-4. The Invaders haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Brianna Connor was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Mia Keenan was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
West Scranton's victory bumped their record up to 6-13. As for Riverside, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-11.
West Scranton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Riverside has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .431. It's a different story for West Scranton, though, as they've only averaged .364. Will they be able to contain Riverside's hitters?
Riverside skirted past West Scranton 6-5 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Invaders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
