Basketball Game Preview: Munster Mustangs vs. Lake Central Indians

Munster hasn't had much luck against Lake Central recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Munster Mustangs will challenge the Lake Central Indians at 6:00 p.m.

Munster is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Valparaiso on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Munster was outmatched by Valparaiso and fell 72-39. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while the Vikings are ranked 32nd).

Hammond Morton typically has all the answers at home, but on Wednesday Lake Central proved too difficult a challenge. They strolled past the Governors with points to spare, taking the game 63-46.

Munster better keep an eye on Ayla Krygier. She was instrumental in Lake Central's win, going 9 of 14 en route to 28 points and three steals. With that strong performance, Krygier is now averaging an impressive 15.3 points per game. Isabella Soria was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists.

Lake Central is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points per game. As for Munster, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-9.

Munster suffered a grim 59-38 defeat to Lake Central when the teams last played back in December of 2024. Can Munster avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
