League recap: Owens breaks off league-leading run for South Davidson

Preston Owens of South Davidson ran for the longest rushing play in 1A Yadkin Valley this season against North Moore last week. Owens ran for 58 yards on the play and finished with 101 on the day as his team topped the Mustangs.

North Rowan moved up to 131 from 174 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Cavaliers climbed the ranks as a result of a 45-13 win over East Montgomery.

Albemarle's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Deon Christian threw for 120 and one touchdown and Alvin Currie had 74 yards receiving. On the ground Kevin McKinney chipped in 110 yards. Markez Brown helped Albemarle's passing attack out by catching three balls for 46 yards.

Albemarle's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bulldogs feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Christian has thrown for 728 yards and nine touchdowns this season, while Brown has 12 catches for 206 yards. McKinney leads the league in rushing with 617 yards.

A big matchup in 1A Yadkin Valley this week will be when South Stanly takes on the Eagles. The Rowdy Rebel Bulls are in second place, while East Montgomery is in fifth place.

North Rowan took down Phil Collett's team 45-13 last week, the largest margin of any game.
