League recap: Valley Lutheran's Koehne delivers best pitching performance from past week

IV Section III league recap: 4/3/13

Aaron Koehne was the top pitcher in IV Section III this week, leading Valley Lutheran. Over the past week, he had two wins and 11 Ks.

This could be a critical week for Yuma Catholic, which holds a 1-game lead over Phoenix Christian for the league's top spot in the standings.

Arizona Lutheran Academy boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks.

Veritas Prep had a league-high 15 steals as a team this week, but still trails Gilbert Classical Academy, which has 55 on the year, for the season lead.

24 batters hit over .400 this week. Leading the pack was Diego Correa, who hit .833 by going 5-for-6.

The Coyotes' Noah Meshay finished his week with 11 hits, tops in the league. On the season, he's hitting .382 and ranks 21st in the league with 13 hits.



Koehne led the Flames to a win on March 27, as he notched ten strikeouts to beat the Falcons, 9-5. He gave up nine hits and five runs over seven innings of work.

Paul Vinke threw a shutout as he led the Cougars to victory over Valley Lutheran, 10-0, on Tuesday. He pitched five scoreless innings and struck out eight, while giving up one hit.
