Softball Game Preview: El Camino Colts vs. Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory Fightin' Irish

El Camino hasn't had much luck against Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Colts will welcome the Fightin' Irish at 4:00 p.m. El Camino has given up an average of 10.2 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

El Camino is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game last Friday. They lost 18-2 to South San Francisco.

El Camino saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mahealani Keahi, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run. Keahi is on a roll when it comes to triples, as she's now hit at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Patricia Vasquez also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They skirted past St. Ignatius College Preparatory 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Fightin' Irish have posted since March 26, 2024.

Arden Walsh was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Endo, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory pushed their record up to 7-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for El Camino, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

El Camino suffered a grim 18-3 defeat to Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Colts avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
