Football Recap: Liberty Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Liberty was the 38-14 winner over Clovis West when they last played one another back in August of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Patriots were dealt a 43-14 loss at the hands of the Golden Eagles on Friday. Despite 107 more yards than the Golden Eagles, the Patriots couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Robert Smith Jr. threw for 189 yards and one touchdown. David Avena was his top target, picking up 70 receiving yards and one score. On the ground, Dennis Perry rushed for 87 yards.

A big part of Clovis West's victory came down to the chemistry between Jamar (JJ) Howard and his top target Relando Jefferson. Howard threw for 128 yards and five TDs while Jefferson picked up 79 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Those five passing touchdowns gave Howard a new career-high.

Liberty's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Clovis West, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Liberty will welcome Oaks Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Clovis West, they will be playing at home against Edison at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
