Basketball Recap: Kaden Freeman's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Tanner over Decatur Heritage Christian Academy

Tanner came up into this matchup off a tough 36-point loss last Saturday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Decatur Heritage Christian Academy Eagles by a score of 67-65 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Rattlers have suffered since November 14, 2024.

Tanner's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaden Freeman, who went 7 of 11 on his way to 17 points in addition to seven assists and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Freeman a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Elyjah Jones, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Tanner and nudges their season record down to 12-12. As for Decatur Heritage Christian Academy, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-9.

Tanner won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Elkmont at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Tanner is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.8 points per game this season. Decatur Heritage Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
