Softball Recap: Saturday's Loss Ends Hersey's Winning Streak

Hersey dropped their record down to 17-8 on Saturday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins. They fell 7-3 to the Stevenson Patriots. The Huskies were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

As for Stevenson, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 19 of their last 20 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.

For Stevenson's part, Ava Potempa spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Potempa.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sophia Becker, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last ten contests. Alyssa Shimanski was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Looking ahead, Hersey will host Prospect at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Stevenson, they will head out to square off against Zion-Benton at 4:45 p.m. on Monday.
