Waynedale fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Dalton on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 11-10. The loss continues a trend for the Golden Bears in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost five in a row.
Madi Miller and Kendall Rising stepped up to the plate in a big way. Miller scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Rising went 4-for-5 with four RBI. Another player making a difference was Carleigh Lynch, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.
Meanwhile, Triway never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They blew past Orrville 22-0. Considering the Titans have won four matches by more than eight runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Maddy Moran was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Moran was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Alyssa Hochstetler was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Kenzie Gatti was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Triway hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 4-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Waynedale's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Triway, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Waynedale has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .449. However, it's not like Triway struggles in that department as they've averaged .488. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
