Basketball Recap: Washington County's Loss Ends Eight-Game Winning Streak on the Road

If Washington County was feeling good fresh off their 74-32 takedown of Jefferson County last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Washington County Golden Hawks fell 56-49 to the East Laurens Falcons on Tuesday. The Golden Hawks' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Washington County lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jade Kitchens, who went 5 for 9 on her way to 13 points along with five assists and three steals. Another player making a difference was Emmya Gamble, who posted seven points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Even though they lost, Washington County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive matches.

East Laurens' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mckayela Tanner, who put up 21 points and six steals. The game was Tanner's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Jayla Givens was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards.

Washington County's loss ended an eight-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-4. As for East Laurens, their win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4.

Washington County will welcome Dodge County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Washington County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.6 points per game this season. As for East Laurens, they are taking a road trip to square off against Jefferson County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. East Laurens knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight contests -- so hopefully Jefferson County likes a good challenge.
