Preview: Ironwood Eagles vs. Willow Canyon Wildcats
Ironwood and Willow Canyon are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The Ironwood Eagles will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Willow Canyon Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Friday, Ironwood was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 43-39 to Apollo. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Ironwood in their matchups with Apollo: they've now lost three in a row.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Willow Canyon's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Paradise Valley by a score of 30-28. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Willow Canyon has scored all season.
Ironwood bumped their record down to 4-12 with that loss, which was their seventh straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.4 points per game. As for Willow Canyon, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.
Ironwood took a serious blow against Willow Canyon in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 69-33. Can Ironwood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
