Baseball Game Preview: Paramount Pirates vs. Mary Star of the Sea Stars

The Paramount Pirates will head out to square off against the Mary Star of the Sea Stars at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Wednesday, Paramount made easy work of Oxford Academy and carried off a 10-4 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.

Jacob Lara and Nicholas Medina did most of the damage at the plate: Lara scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Medina scored two runs while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits Lara has posted since back in March. Jacob Quinones was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Mary Star of the Sea's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. They never let Verbum Dei Jesuit get on the board and left with a 31-0 victory. The Stars have beaten the Eagles the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Eagles has come to flipping the script.

Paramount pushed their record up to 11-7 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Mary Star of the Sea, their win bumped their record up to 10-6.

Paramount was able to grind out a solid victory over Mary Star of the Sea when the teams last played back in March, winning 10-5. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Stars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
