Basketball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Hammond's 13th in Last 16 Outings

There's no place like home for Hammond, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. They snuck past the Northside Christian Academy Crusaders with a 70-64 win on Tuesday. Given the Skyhawks' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Crusaders are ranked 67th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Northside Christian Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jaylen Weaver, who almost dropped a triple-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists. Those nine assists gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dalton Gadson, who went 7-for-13 to rack up 17 points.

Hammond is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 16 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points over those games. As for Northside Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-8.

The future could be bright for both Hammond and Northside Christian Academy: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Hammond will look to extend Northwood Academy's three-game losing streak when the meet on Saturday. Similarly, Northside Christian Academy will try to hand Laurence Manning Academy their fourth-straight loss when the two meet on Saturday.
