Westhill is 2-8 against Chittenango since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Warriors will head out to take on the Bears at 4:30 p.m. Westhill has given up an average of 7.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Marcellus hit Westhill with a five-run seventh inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Warriors lost 14-4 to the Mustangs. Surprisingly, this marked the Warriors' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Grace Horning was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Cadence Ramsing, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Chittenango entered their tilt with Jordan-Elbridge on Wednesday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles a 12-0 shutout. Considering the Bears have won six matches by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Lauren Machan, who gave up just a hit and racked up 13 Ks to keep Jordan-Elbridge off the board. Machan has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on MacKenna Palko, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alivia Cavotta, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs.
Chittenango kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in five consecutive contests.
Chittenango's victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Westhill, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 4-4.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Westhill has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .490. However, it's not like Chittenango struggles in that department as they've averaged .481. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Westhill suffered a grim 14-7 defeat to Chittenango in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
