Softball Recap: Archbishop Mccarthy Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Archbishop McCarthy entered their tilt with Somerset Academy on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers a 10-0 shutout. For the Mavericks, this counts as revenge for the 5-2 win the Panthers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Sienna Garcia made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexis Nightingale, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Sophia Jimenez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Archbishop McCarthy's victory bumped their record up to 10-5. As for Somerset Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-6-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Archbishop McCarthy will venture away from home to challenge Oxbridge Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Somerset Academy, they will head out to take on American Heritage at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
