Preview: Iowa Colony Pioneers vs. Bay City Blackcats
The Iowa Colony Pioneers will head out on the road to face off against the Bay City Blackcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Iowa Colony has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 354 points over their last eight games.
Iowa Colony had a rough season last year, but they look ready to turn that poor record around this year. They strolled past El Campo with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 35-17. Given Iowa Colony's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 145th, while El Campo is ranked 370th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Iowa Colony found their leader in underclassman Carson White, who threw for 168 yards and three touchdowns while completing 76.9% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Jayden Warren also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Bay City can now show off four landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They blew past Needville 50-17 on the road. The win made it back-to-back wins for Bay City.
Jada Andrews continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 306 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.9 yards per carry, and also catching a touchdown. Andrews was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 58 yards. Another player making a difference was Alex Estrada, who threw for 207 yards and four touchdowns on only 19 passes.
Iowa Colony's victory was their eighth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 Brazosport and 3-6 Navasota (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 40.3% over those games). As for Bay City, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Iowa Colony has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 189.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Bay City struggles in that department as they've been even better at 204.8 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Iowa Colony and Bay City were almost perfectly matched up when the teams last played back in October of 2022, but Iowa Colony suffered an agonizing 28-27 loss. Can Iowa Colony avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
