Baseball Game Preview: Nimitz Cougars vs. Aldine Mustangs

Nimitz is 0-10 against Aldine since April of 2022 but things could change on Friday. The Nimitz Cougars will host the Aldine Mustangs at 6:00 p.m.

Nimitz is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against Aldine, falling 6-0. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Cougars were not able to get on the board.

For Aldine's part, Raul Careaga made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Careaga has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Julian Velez, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Orlando Reyes, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

The win (which was Aldine's eighth in a row) raised their record to 9-2. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 7.25 strikeouts in those games compared to only 3.67 in the others. As for Nimitz, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.
