Basketball Recap: Apache Junction Prospectors vs. Florence Gophers
Apache Junction was the 70-34 winner over Florence when they last played one another back in February of 2016, but their luck changed this time around. The Apache Junction Prospectors were dealt a 68-35 defeat at the hands of the Florence Gophers on Friday. The Prospectors' loss continues a trend for the team, making it six in a row.
Apache Junction's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Roy Nelson, who posted 16 points and three steals, and Biagio Castagnola, who went 5 of 6 on his way to 12 points and five rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Florence to victory, but perhaps none more so than Adrian Taufaasau, who went 9 of 13 on his way to 18 points and seven boards. Taufaasau has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Brody Ramirez was another key player, going 5 of 8 on his way to 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Apache Junction's loss dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Florence, the win keeps them at an undefeated 17-0.
Apache Junction will face off against Santa Cruz Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Florence, they will square off against Globe at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Florence knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 contests -- so hopefully Globe likes a good challenge.
