Softball Recap: Miller Place Takes Down Marlboro Central in a Playoff Battle

Miller Place extended their postseason success on Sunday against Marlboro Central. They won by a run and slipped past the Dukes 6-5. For the Panthers, this counts as revenge for the 4-1 victory the Dukes walked away with the last time they faced one another back in June of 2024.

Ava Zicchinelli spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Delaney Schleider, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Laney Vomero was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Miller Place is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-2 record this season. Having lost for the first time this season, Marlboro Central fell to 19-1.

As of now, neither Miller Place nor the Dukes have any future games scheduled.
