While Mercer Island's victory against Newport - Bellevue wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Islanders won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by the Knights 23-22. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Islanders as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

David James Jr. was the offensive standout of the game as he picked up 102 receiving yards and one score. Dillon Carroll was another key player, having thrown for 282 yards and onetouchdown.

Mercer Island didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Newport - Bellevue to a completion percentage of just 44%. The Islanders weren't nearly as limited: they posted one of 62.2%.

Despite the loss, Newport - Bellevue still got an impressive performance from Tj Rhatigan, who rushed for 93 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also threw for 137 yards on 11 of 25 attempts. Rhatigan also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making four total tackles and defending one pass in addition to snagging an interception.

Mercer Island's record is now 2-3. As for Newport - Bellevue, they now also have a losing record of 2-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Mercer Island will square off against Renton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Islanders will need to watch out since the Red Hawks have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Newport - Bellevue, they will challenge Inglemoor at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
