Recap: Vela Sabercats vs. Weslaco East Wildcats

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Vela Sabercats walked away with it. They put the hurt on Weslaco East with a sharp 31-9 victory on Friday. Vela might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won eight contests by 21 points or more this season.

Jamal Polley continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 213 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Polley is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last six games he's played.

The win (which was Vela's sixth in a row) raised their record to 10-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Weslaco East, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.

Vela will look to defend their home field on Friday against Miller at 7:00 p.m. Miller knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 matches -- so hopefully Vela likes a good challenge. Weslaco East does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
