Basketball Recap: Saguaro Snags Fifth Victory in Last Six Games

Saguaro won the last time they faced Marcos de Niza, and Nas Hailey did his part to make sure it happened again. The Saguaro Sabercats were the clear victor by an 84-61 margin over the Marcos de Niza Padres on Thursday thanks in part to Hailey, who went 9 of 15 to rack up 24 points and eight rebounds. His evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 22 points.

O'Shea Bonner was another key player, going 6 for 9 on his way to 14 points and six steals. What's more, he also posted a 67% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's posted since back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Marcos de Niza lost, don't look at James Steward. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 32 points and 17 boards. Steward has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last ten times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jayden Mcgee, who posted nine points.

Saguaro is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.5 points over those games. As for Marcos de Niza, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-12.

Coming up, Saguaro will head out to face off against St. Mary's at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Mary's knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Saguaro likes a good challenge. As for Marcos de Niza, they will welcome Arcadia at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Marcos de Niza is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 65.8 points per game this season.
