Football Recap: Greeneville's Undefeated Season over After Six Games

Greeneville fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Sevier County on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Smoky Bears by a score of 30-27. The matchup marked the Greene Devils' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Bryson Headrick was the offensive standout of the contest as he picked up 59 receiving yards and one score, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. Sevier County also got a significant boost from Nathan Patterson, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 96 yards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Greeneville fell to 5-1. As for Sevier County, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.

Greeneville and Sevier County should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings. The Greene Devils (ranked 37th) will meet Cherokee (ranked 155th) at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. Meanwhile, Sevier County will challenge Cocke County at 7:00 p.m. on October 3 with a big rank advantage (18 vs. 279).
