Softball Recap: University Trojans vs. Samueli Academy Firewolves

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask University). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Samueli Academy Firewolves a 25-0 shutout on Wednesday. While the Trojans didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Maiko Shiraiwa was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.
