Football Game Preview: Hammond Tornadoes vs. Salmen Spartans

The Hammond Tornadoes will take on the Salmen Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

On Friday, Hammond came up short against Covington and fell 25-14. Despite 146 more yards than the Lions, the Tornadoes couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Despite the loss, Hammond got top-tier performance from Zalen Bennett, who rushed for 106 yards and one score. The Tornadoes are 4-1 when Bennett posts 100 or more rushing yards, but 1-2 otherwise.

Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 3.4 yards per carry. The team can thank Trion Wise for the heroic effort on defense: he. Hammond's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 5.1.

Meanwhile, Salmen strolled past Slidell with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 35-21. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.

Salmen's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Hammond, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 5-3.

Hammond didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Salmen in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, but they still walked away with a 19-14 win. Will the Tornadoes repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
