Softball Recap: Six Straight Home Victories for Nitro

There's no place like home for Nitro, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Huntington Highlanders on Wednesday as they made off with a 17-9 victory. That's more bragging rights for the Wildcats, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

McKenzie Hyatt was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lyndi Campbell, who went 2-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Madeline Given was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Nitro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They are 5-2 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Nitro pushed their record up to 9-13 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Huntington, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 13 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season.

Nitro has already played their next game, a 20-1 defeat against Hoover on the 24th. As for Huntington, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 13-3 loss against South Charleston on the 24th.
