Softball Recap: Independence Triumphs

The Independence 76ers beat the Pioneer Mustangs 8-4 on Thursday.

Julieta Ramirez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Ramirez wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lynnia Holden, who went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Mackenzy Sauao was another, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Independence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Independence now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Pioneer, their loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-10.

Coincidentally, Independence and Pioneer will both be playing Christopher the next time they take the field. The 76ers will head out to face the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on the 13th, while the Mustangs will host them at 4:00 p.m. on the 14th.
