Softball Game Preview: Bunker Hill Bears vs. Newton-Conover Red Devils

Bunker Hill is 9-1 against Newton-Conover since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Bunker Hill Bears will host the Newton-Conover Red Devils at 6:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Bunker Hill's favor as the squad sits on six straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Newton-Conover has been banged up by 11 consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.

Bunker Hill is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Maiden on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Blue Devils by a score of 2-1.

Serena Thurman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bunker Hill saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alexis Stuebe, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Newton-Conover lost 11-3 to St. Stephens on Thursday.

Bunker Hill's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Newton-Conover, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.

Bunker Hill was able to grind out a solid victory over Newton-Conover in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 5-1. Will Bunker Hill repeat their success, or does Newton-Conover have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
