League recap: Chaparral bests Mountain Ridge in blowout

Chaparral took down Mountain Ridge 42-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Sean Paul Brophy threw for 269 yards and 3 touchdowns in the win.

Cactus Shadows made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,131 from 3,810. The improvement came about via a 32-21 victory over Apollo last week.

The Firebirds' dynamic duo of Brophy and Elijah Castro proved to be unstoppable against the Mountain Lions, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Israel Simpson helped Chaparral's passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 77 yards.

Castro was the best wideout in II Section VII this week as David Huffine's team defeated Bobby Green's team. Castro racked up 7 receptions for 94 yards.

Nate Brockman made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Falcons defeated the Hawks. The 5-foot-10 senior recorded 2 fumbles.

He went 22-29 with 1 interceptions.

Daniel Bridge-Gadd was a passing and rushing force as Paradise Valley defeated Mingus. He completed 27 passes for 308 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 42 yards. Bridge-Gadd's favorite target this week was Zach Compestine, who caught 7 passes for 86 yards.

Joe Kuhlmann was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 26 carries, he ran for 151 yards as Cactus Shadows topped the Mountain Lions. Antonio Marchica also contributed to the rushing game with 30 yards on the ground.

Brophy put up the best numbers through the air as Chaparral beat Mountain Ridge.

The Trojans' Bridge-Gadd and Jordan Brown have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Bridge-Gadd has thrown for 928 yards this season, while Brown has 18 catches for 263 yards. Kuhlmann from Greg Davis' team leads the league in rushing with 563 yards.

Arcadia led II Section VII in scoring this week by notching 48 points on Camelback. Peter Campbell threw for 170 yards during the win.
