Basketball Recap: Benbrook Takes a Loss

Benbrook lost against Eastern Hills back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Benbrook Bobcats fell 67-54 to the Eastern Hills Highlanders. While losing is never fun, the Bobcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 681st, while the Highlanders are ranked 220th).

When it comes to explaining why Benbrook lost, don't look at Brennan Barton. Despite the final result, he went 8 of 18 en route to 24 points and three steals. Barton is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Jayden Hall, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 14 points.

Even though they lost, Benbrook smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Eastern Hills had a senior duo take command as Messiah Miller went 9 of 15 on his way to 29 points in addition to five assists and five steals and Dorian Johnson went 8 for 14 on his way to 16 points and eight rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Miller has scored at least a third of Eastern Hills' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Devon Norice, who posted seven points.

Benbrook's record is now 9-9. As for Eastern Hills, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.

Benbrook didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 48-46 win against Ford on the 26th. As for Eastern Hills, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 57-54 defeat against Randall on the 27th.
