Derby beats Newton for their seventh straight win

The Derby Panthers had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.8 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Newton 55-7 on the road. The result was nothing new for Derby, who have now won four matches by 42 points or more so far this season.

Among those leading the charge was Easton Splane, who rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, and also threw for 119 yards and a touchdown while completing 75% of his passes. Arieus Finley also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.

Derby's win was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-1. As for Newton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.

Derby will be playing at home against Topeka at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Topeka will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 119th, while Derby is ranked tenth). As for Newton, they will head out on the road to face off against Liberal at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
