Baseball Game Preview: West Johnston Wildcats vs. C.B. Aycock Golden Falcons

The West Johnston Wildcats will square off against the C.B. Aycock Golden Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. West Johnston's pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so C.B. Aycock's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

West Johnston is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering South Johnston just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 4-3. Wildcats fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Trojans since on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, C.B. Aycock posted their closest victory since April 24, 2024 on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Southern Wayne 5-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Golden Falcons.

Janeson Steele made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caden Cox, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.

West Johnston's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 10-4. As for C.B. Aycock, their victory bumped their record up to 5-8.
